| Tony doesn't remember much anymore, but Michelle does. She remembers last year when she nearly had to drag him out to dinner by the balls to celebrate Valentine's Day. Tony can't even remember last week. She remembers the way he leered at their fit-looking waitress with the huge tits and how that really pissed her off. Now Tony doesn't leer so much as stare blankly. That pisses Michelle off, too. She remembers how after dinner he fucked her and after that he told her he loved her and after that she believed him. Tonight Michelle doesn't want to remember. She wants to forget, like Tony. She remembers how he used to talk about Sid. Everyone always said that Sid was the one who looked up to him, but she knew that a lot of the time, it was the other way around. Michelle can't look at Sid. She can't look at Sid without seeing Tony and she won't look at Tony because there are things he doesn't remember, and everything is so fucking knackering now that. That. She remembers all the times he would get off with girls that weren't her, and she'd pretend not to notice, but she always did. That all Michelle can do to keep from falling apart is get sloshed and fuck a pathetic chav or two, but that never works. Somehow Michelle, every night, ends up cold, shivering, hand clutching her phone, finger hovering over speed dial. She remembers how he was always so unpredictable. No one fully understood why he did what he did; how one minute he could be your best friend and then the next your worse enemy. He was always scheming, always planning. Tony doesn't plan anymore. Tony sits and he waits and he tries, god, he tries, but he just can't do it. He can't be the Tony he used to be. He can't remember Tony, but Michelle does. |
